A Q about yoga......?

i wanna start yoga to loose weight {but not just to loose weight, just to help} and i wanna learn how to do the "sun salutations" frist....the X # of poses you do every morning a dawn...i'm doing this alone and i have never tried yoga before...so i need to know who to start...if you could include links, that would be great! thanks!!

Hi,

I do sun salutes almost every morning. It's a series of poses (standing pose, downward dog, etc.) that stretches all your major tendons and warms up your muscles.

I would urge you to NOT do this entirely on your own. It's hard to get the positions correct without some feedback (particularly downward dog), and if you hyperextend your joints you can cause yourself damage.

There are Iyengar yoga institutes in almost every city (link to search below). You don't need to spend a lot of money to do this, just go for a few lessons and get some feedback. Source(s): http://www.iynaus.org/search/search.aspx...
Here is a direct link for the sun salutation:

Yoga is really wonderful for the body!
I started about 2 months ago and love it.
Hi! I am a yoga teacher and there is a great video on my website for sale www.theartofevolution.vpweb.co... Go to the store page and buy the Bryan Kest video. He is a world renowned yoga teacher and I personally know him and have taken his classes. He is awesome and you will love it! Its better to see how its actually done and follow along then to get a book. Good luck!
Since you are brand new to Yoga, I would highly suggest looking for a local class, so you can learn the positions correctly, and can later continue solo if that is your goal. I am a 'solo work outer' that prefers being alone when I work out, but when I took a Yoga class at my local junior college, I absolutely loved doing it with the class, there was something 'zen' about it (and I often got corrected on my form). Look at your local civic centers, junior colleges, or just look online in your area to see what's around. If that is still out of reach, recruit a friend to do it with you, at least someone can hold a leg up or guide you into positions if needed.
